Beauty

Sometimes, it is just a little hard here. The adventure is well worth it, but sometimes, I just want to go home. Once in a while, tears come. So, tonight, I want to try to think about the beautiful things here. The loudspeaker has just gone off announcing evening prayer at the mosque(for the men). So, I want to share with you all on this adventure, some of the glimpses of beauty I have seen during these last 8 weeks, and I want to encourage my heart. 


I always see beautiful hibiscus plants along with many other flowering bushes. They cheer my spirits and encourage my soul. They are so bright and friendly whether they are in Italia, the USA or right here in Morocco. So, here is some beauty in the lovely creation God has made and placed in Morocco.


There is also beauty in the painted ceilings and beautiful archways one finds in most towns and cities in this part of Morocco. I also love the mosaics; one can see them on the risers of stairways, decorating a column or under a fountain. This one reminds me of the cross because that's what I notice as well as the tiles. I am thinking this might be a springboard for a painting.

I also see beauty in the children I teach. I have made lots of art with them, and they have poured themselves into it. This week they are working on mosaics, which they love, and the older ones are doing texture drawings. I have had fun thinking up ideas, even though it is sometimes hard, and the seventh grade has been more than a challenge.

One child asked me today; "When you get old do you just die and that's all?" 




I was not sure if it was the time or place to say anything, and I ached for the little one. I said something that would be encouraging and helpful for the child considering we have a loving God. I wanted to give hope.


We have a loving God. Jesus came and is our loving God, loving neighbor, loving Savior. This is my treasure in my heart, perfect Beauty.  


I pray God will make a way for me to share Beauty in this place.

  3. I'm scrolling down now to read this post, having just read the post above.Hang in there Marcia-culture shock is part of of-sure forces one to go deeper & you are. I apppreciated seeing your photos-images that are encouraging you. How about that 'a way to share Beauty in the place' & 'give hope'...those big canvases will be a wonderful way to share your heart. I'm thinking of the encouraging words of St. Francis of Assisi!
